What is the Process to Apply for Irish Driving Licence?
Before you get behind the wheel of a car in
Ireland, you need a driver's license. Your license must also be up-to-date or
"up-to-date" and that means sooner or later you will renew it.
Official Legit Documents has put together a guide to help you understand how
much it costs, what documentation is required, and when to update about Irish
driving license renewal.
Updating your SIM can be done in person or online.
While the cost remains the same regardless of the choice you make, the
paperwork required for each decision will be different.
- Public
Service Card (PSC) and MyGovID1 verified.
- Proof
of address for the last six months, if different from the one provided
when applying for the PSC.
- Proof
that you normally reside in Ireland if your place of birth and citizenship
is outside the EU/EEA.
- The
registration fee is 55.00 euros.
The document requirements for student drivers
wishing to renew their driver's license are the same, although the fee is
€35.00. If you apply for a third or subsequent driver's license, you must have
taken and failed a driving test within the previous two years or is applying
for a driving test for renewal. Evidence of what applies to you will be
required.
- You
will need to make an appointment at your local National Driver's Office
(NDLS) center - see location here - you must bring:

bring a valid photo ID with you.
- Proof

or damaged SIM and different from the address you provided when you
applied for your PSC.
- Proof
that you normally reside in Ireland if your place of birth and citizenship
is outside the EU/EEA.
- The
registration fee is 55.00 euros.
For student drivers, the fee is EUR 35.00, and
proof of not passing a driving test in the previous two years or an application
for a driving test if it is a third or subsequent driving license is required.
The first important piece of information to
remember is that you can apply for license renewal within three months of
expiration. Your expiration date is of course listed in your license. If you
want to know more about all the information displayed in your license, read our
article.
If you are 70 years or older and want to renew your SIM, the SIM is free of charge, but you must attach a medical report with the application.
To get your free SIM, you need to do the following:
1. Visit your GP
2. Submit a medical report signed by your GP.
3. Fill in the application form.
4. Show the previous SIM.
5. Submit 2 passport photos to be signed on the
